Theodore Chang is a baritone from Long Island, New York. His passion for classical singing and opera stemmed from his upbringing there, when he joined his high school's production of Die Fledermaus as Dr. Falke and he has not stopped singing since.
In the 2026-2027 season, he will make his Amore Opera debut in October as Valentin in Gounod's Faust. He will also serve as a chorister for Florida Grand Opera's winter festival, participating in the Misa Criolla and Il barbiere di Siviglia. More updates on the 2026-2027 to come.
For the 2025-2026 season, Chang returned to New Jersey Opera Theater as Fedorov in Clint Borzoni's opera The Christmas Spider. He made his debut with New York Opera Forum as Rochefort in Anna Bolena and Il Conte Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro. Additionally he also debuted with Mannes Opera as an ensemble member while covering Caretto in Korngold's The Silent Serenade. In August, he joined the Sotto Voce Vocal Collective as Don Fernando and covered Don Pizarro in Fidelio. Additionally, he was a professional soloist for the Old Steeple Community Church's From Bach to Broadway concert, singing pieces from Verdi's Don Carlo and as well as Alan Menkin's Beauty and the Beast.
During the 2024-2025 season, he made his Music on Site debut as the Editor in Michael Ching's new opera Notes on Viardot. He also performed in their scenes showcase in classic roles such as Vodnik in Rusalka, the titular character in Gianni Schicchi and Sulpice in La fille du regiment. He served as an auxiliary chorister in Florida Grand Opera's productions of L'elisir d'amore and Carmen and made his debut with New Jersey Opera Theater as Flora's Servant and covered Giorgio Germont in La traviata.
In the 2023-2024 season, Chang added many impressive roles: Masetto and Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni with Chicago Summer Opera, Mr. Jones in Street Scene and Alcindoro (Scenes) from La boheme with Frost Opera Theatre. He sang as the baritone soloist in a rehearsal recording of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony for the Frost Chamber Singers.
The 2022-2023 season saw Chang as Antonio in Le nozze di Figaro with Frost Opera Theatre and Papageno in the Magic Flute with the Queen's Summer Vocal Institute. He also performed Masetto from Don Giovanni and the Judge from Trial by Jury, both in scenes, for Frost Opera Theatre.
He is a current M.M. candidate in Voice at the Mannes School of Music under the tutelage of baritone Stephen Powell and coach Joshua Greene. He earned his B.M. in Vocal Performance from the University of Miami Frost School of Music, where he studied under Metropolitan Opera baritone Kim Josephson.
He maintains a private teaching studio from his residence on Long Island, is a member of the eVoco Voice Collective, an award-winning vocal ensemble based there.
